On the third Saturday of May, many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day to pay tribute to the men and women who serve in all branches of the US armed forces.

This holiday caps Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May. Observances can include multi-service military displays in public, educational opportunities to teach about the armed forces, showcases of state-of-the-art military technology, 'Support the Troops' themed motorcycle rides, parades and festivals, fundraisers for veterans' care, and memorial gatherings.

The combined holiday began in 1949 to replace separate Army, Navy, and Air Force Days, to promote the armed services' unification under the Department of Defense. Each year has its own theme; the 2016 theme is "Guardians of Freedom".

This Armed Forces Day, Plazko.com thanks our brothers and sisters in all military branches for their service, dedication, contributions, and sacrifices.
