'Raising' is an ancient metalworking technique that uses different shaped hammers and a shaped platform such as an anvil or 'raising stake' to create hollow cups, bowls, domes, and many other metal/jewelry forms from a flat sheet of soft metal such as annealed silver, copper, brass, or bronze.
This hammer is used on the outside surface of the metal, with the sheet positioned on the raising stake at a slight angle. The cross sections of both faces are rectangular with a slight vertical curve. Excellent for producing smooth, narrow bends in sheet metal blanks or pre-made forms. Head sizes are 28x15mm and 29x17mm, with working ends mirror-polished to help create smoothly finished work. Hammer head sides are finished black to reduce glare. Socketed to sturdy 11" (279.4mm) wooden handle.
While these are often tools for large sheep metal work, they are versatile in jewelry applications as well.
