American political contests are currently dominated by two political parties: Republicans and Democrats. These parties are often known by two popular icons that have been used since the 19th Century, the elephant and the donkey.
The Democrat Donkey began during the 1828 presidential campaign of Andrew Jackson. After Jackson's opponents called him an uncultured backwoods 'jackass', Jackson was amused and included a donkey image in his campaign posters...as a symbol of endurance, stubbornness, tenacity, and survival. By the 1880s, political cartoonists used the donkey as a political symbol for Democrats in general.
Our tiny Democrat Donkey is cast in 19ga .925 sterling silver, with a 'Stars and Stripes' design on front. For custom necklace or bracelet arrangements, the top features a cast 2.6mm (1.25mm inner diameter) closed jump ring holding a 5mm 20ga closed jump ring.
Whether you string this by itself on a delicate chain, or combine with other charms...make your own patriotic statement today!
