Spring ring clasps are the next level up from simple hook & eye or toggle clasps. These roughly donut-shaped clasps are hollow metal rings cut in one place, with an inner curved wire pin, an outer trigger knob, and a hidden inner hardened steel spring assembly. Once closed around a jump ring, spring ring clasps lock in place, helping prevent accidental opening and jewelry loss.
In their smaller, plainer sizes, spring rings can be difficult to open and close for some people, so a stiffer 'bar' or 'tag' with a hole in it may be easier to use than a loose jump ring. As with all clasps, spring rings are most effective when matched with compatibly-sized jump rings, chains, beading line, and beads or links. (Don't use a light clasp for heavy jewelry, don't put a huge clasp with a delicate chain!)
